The name of the group is derived from the ancient city of Mohenjo Daro, Pakistan, whose mysterious history has been questioned for centuries. The city's inhabitants, who once maintained a thriving civilization, suddenly disappeared. Mohenjo Daro as a musical endeavor is not without its own mystery. The trio is made up of three musicians whose lives were infiltrated by Indian deities and Romany folklore. Mohenjo Daro gives a powerful presentation of traditional Indian and Middle Eastern inspired music. The band’s inherent Western methods blend tastefully with elements ranging from Indian raga and devotional music to Arabic trance and belly dance music. In the fall of 2000 Mohenjo Daro signed with Canadian label, Tandem Records. They released their first album, Baksheesh, and toured Ontario and Quebec. The band has completed a third Canadian tour, which included an appearance at the 2002 Montreal Jazz Festival.
